THE BEST WAY TO MOLOKAI
From LAX, United offers connecting service to Island Air, Mokulele Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. Restricted round-trip fares begin at $760.
There are three ways into Kalaupapa National Historic Park. You can fly, hike or take a mule, but in each case, you need a permit. No visitors younger than 16 are allowed.
Kalaupapa Mule Tour, Highway 470, Milepost 5, (800) 567-7550, https://www.muleride.com. $199 a person includes a guided mule tour down the Kalaupapa Trail (3.2 miles from point to point), entry permits, historical park tour with Damien Tours, light lunch and National Park Service trail maintenance fees. One tour a day, Mondays-Saturdays.
For $69 you can hike the trail into Kalaupapa. The fee includes all of the above. Fly-in tours also are available from Oahu, Maui and the airport on Molokai.
