THE BEST WAY
From LAX, Aeromexico, Alaska, Mexicana and United offer nonstop flights to Mexico City. American, Continental and Delta offer connecting flights (change of planes). Restricted round-trip fares begin at $278. From Mexico City, Tepoztlán is about 90 minutes by car. Taxis usually cost $130 to $140 each way.

Hotel Amatlán de Quetzalcóatl, Amatlán; 739-395-1880, www.hotelamatlan.com. The hotel is about 5 miles outside Tepoztlán, with a big pool, tennis court, stables, spa services. Kid-friendly. Rooms from $82.
WHERE TO EAT
Sibarita, the restaurant at the Posada del Tepozteco, 3 Calle Paraíso, Tepoztlán; 739-395-0010. (Menu at www.posadadeltepozteco.com.) This is the fanciest place in town, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner entrees from about $6.
El Ciruelo, 17 Zaragoza, Tepoztlán; 739-395-1203, www.elciruelo.com. Large, sophisticated restaurant near center of town with a covered patio and broad mountain views. Dinners from about $6.
