England: Good humor hotel
The Monsal Head Hotel, Monsal Head, near Bakewell, Derbyshire DE45 1NL; 011-44-1-629-640-250. https://www.monsalhead.com . “In Britain, we stayed at this small country hotel (seven rooms) in the Peak District National Park of Derbyshire. The rooms overlooked the dale and were quite large by English standards. The owner, Philip Smith, had a delightful, if somewhat droll, sense of humor.” Double rooms $135; dinner entrees $13-$25.

*New York: Great fare
Osteria Lupa Romano, 170 Thompson St., New York; (212) 982-5089, https://www.luparestaurant.com . “Just off Bleeker Street in the West Village, this restaurant is a gem. Cozy, not unlike restaurants one might find off a side street in Rome. Executive chef Mark Ladner offers a wonderfully varied menu of Italian fare. Best espresso we’ve ever had, as well.” Lunch and dinner entrees $16-$20.
