USC football: Max Wittek, Cody Kessler get final audition

Max Wittek and Cody Kessler, who are competing to become USC’s starting quarterback, will get a final audition Wednesday when the Trojans conduct a mock game at the Coliseum.
There will be no tackling, but Coach Lane Kiffin said the mock game still offers coaches a chance to evaluate quarterbacks.
Wittek reiterated that he thought he and Kessler would be evaluated on their entire performance during training camp, but added, “It’s how you perform in the Coliseum, so we’re looking forward to this.”
Kessler said there was no extra pressure. “I just feel focused and ready and excited,” he said.
The Trojans spent Tuesday night in a hotel as part of the game-day routine.
USC opens at Hawaii on Aug. 29.
