Trevon Bluiett, one of Indiana’s top senior basketball prospects, has backed out of his oral commitment to UCLA. The story was first reported in the Indianapolis Star on Thursday.
Bluiett, a 6-foot-6 forward, had committed to UCLA and its new coach Steve Alford, who was an Indiana high school and University of Indiana college star. According to the Indianapolis paper, Bluiett told Ed Schilling, one of Alford’s assistants, he was reopening his recruitment and had decided to stay closer to home.
On his original recruiting list, besides UCLA, Bluiett had listed Arizona, Butler, Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, and Xavier. Bluiett has taken only one official visit and that was to UCLA after Alford got the Bruin head coaching job.
