PGA Tour stop in Malaysia goes to Monday playoff

Sunday’s final round wasn’t quite long enough to determine a winner at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia.

With darkness falling on the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, Ryan Moore and Gary Woodland stood tied at 14-under, forcing a playoff on Monday.

Both men are trying for their third career victory on the PGA Tour.

“I’m just happy to be in it,” said Moore, who needed a clutch up-and-down at the end. “I was scrambling there on the last hole just to somehow make par and kind of see what happens at that point, and fortunately, I still get another shot at it.”

Inclement weather forced delays in Sunday’s play, and floodlights had been turned on by the time the final golfers reached the 18th hole.

Woodland had a birdie putt to win but could not secure the victory.

“It’ll be a good day,” he said of the upcoming playoff. “We’re going to have to make birdies because Ryan is going to do that, and I’m going to try to do the same.”
