Lindsey Vonn taken to hospital after crash in downhill training run

Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn, expected to make her skiing comeback from major surgery later this month at Beaver Creek, crashed Tuesday morning during a downhill training run in Colorado.

“We have no reason to believe it’s anything significant right now,” U.S. Ski Team spokesman Tom Kelly told the Associated Press.

Vonn crashed at Copper Mountain, the ski team’s training facility near Vail, and was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Vonn, 29, defending Olympic downhill champion and winner of a U.S.-record 59 World Cup races, tore ACL and MCL right knee ligaments at last February’s World Championships.

She was planning to make her comeback during a World Cup event at Beaver Creek in late November in advance of February’s 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi, Russia.

Vonn is a four-time overall champion of the World Cup who won the downhill gold at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
