The Clippers and free-agent point guard Darren Collison agreed on a two-year contract Saturday, according to NBA executives who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.
Collison will get the portion of the mid-level exception that the Clippers had left. His salary will be about $1.9 million for the 2013-14 season. He has an opt-out clause after his first season.
He can’t sign his contract until Wednesday, when the NBA lifts its moratorium.
Collison, 25, started 49 games last season for the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 12.0 points and 5.1 assists in 29.3 minutes a game.
The six-foot Collison, who played at UCLA, will be the backup point guard behind Chris Paul.
Collison and Paul were teammates on the New Orleans Hornets during the 2009-10 season.
