Carmelo Anthony replaces LeBron James as NBA’s top jersey seller

Carmelo Anthony may not be as overpaid as Forbes thinks he is.

On the same day the financial magazine named the New York star the league’s most overpaid player, the NBA revealed that Anthony has the league’s top-selling jersey, moving up from No. 4 in his first full season with the Knicks.

The Forbes list is based on the wins-produced as it compares with a player’s salary, but a player can benefit a team in more ways than can be reflected in the win-loss column. And if anybody with the Knicks is upset about that report, they’re crying all the way to the bank.

Anthony’s rise on the list knocks last year’s top three down one notch each -- Miami’s LeBron James to No. 2, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant to No. 3 and Lakers’ Kobe Bryant to No. 4. Chicago’s Derrick Rose holds at No. 5.

The Top 10 is rounded out by Brooklyn’s Deron Williams, Miami’s Dwyane Wade, Boston’s Rajon Rondo and the Clippers’ Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.

Dwight Howard, who switched from Orlando to the Lakers during the off-season, dropped from No. 7 to No. 12.

The rankings are based on sales at the NBA Store in New York and on NBAStore.com since last November.
