Javaris Crittenton waives right to extradition hearing

Javaris Crittenton waived his right to an extradition hearing and a judge on Wednesday ordered him to be moved to Atlanta, where he faces a murder charge in a drive-by shooting.
In a downtown Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday, Crittenton acknowledged that he faces a murder charge in Atlanta and agreed to return there immediately. The basketball player was arrested Monday night at Orange County’s John Wayne Airport as he boarded a plane bound for Atlanta.
He will remain jailed without bail until he is transferred to Atlanta. Crittenton, 23, of Fayetteville, Ga., is suspected of shooting Jullian Jones, a mother of four, on Aug. 19.
Police have said Crittenton was trying to shoot someone he believed stole jewelry from him in April. Jones was hit by shots fired from a sport utility vehicle and was pronounced dead at a hospital, said FBI Special Agent Steve Emmett.
Crittenton, through his attorney, has denied being connected to the shooting. The former Georgia Tech star’s attorney has said he was trying to return to Atlanta to surrender when authorities arrested him.
Crittenton was drafted by the Lakers in 2007 but was traded in his rookie season to the Memphis Grizzlies.
