Five games down, one to go and Mater Dei is trying to make it a clean sweep for Southern California on the second and last day of the state championships at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.
The Monarchs lead Bishop O’Dowd 28-21 at halftime of the Open Division final, energized by Stanley Johnson’s electrifying dunk early in the second quarter which sparked a 10-5 run that put Mater Dei in front.
Johnson, a McDonald’s All American headed to Arizona, leads all scorers with 13 points.
Earlier today, Southern California teams won the Division II and Division IV boys titles and the Open, Division II and Division IV girls titles. Northern California teams won four of the six games Friday.
