Football: Westlake routs St. Bonaventure in Marmonte League opener
- Share via
Westlake’s defense shut down St. Bonaventure’s high-powered offense, and quarterback Malik Henry had touchdown passes of 49 and 16 yards to Andre Baccellia to help the Warriors upset St. Bonaventure, 31-17, in a Marmonte League East Division opener on Thursday night at Santa Barbara City College.
Jesse Cuccia made two interceptions for Westlake (4-2, 1-0), which spoiled the return of Alabama-bound quarterback Ricky Town, who missed St. Bonaventure’s previous three games with a knee injury.
Kevin Robledo made a 42-yard field goal and Zach Morris contributed a 29-yard touchdown run. St. Bonaventure’s (3-3, 0-1) biggest play was a 75-yard punt return by Lavan Alston in the first half. Westlake led, 14-10, at halftime.
By winning, Westlake becomes the heavy favorite to win the East Division championship.
