Football: Teams have opportunity to opt out of regional playoffs
- Share via
It will be interesting if any school still alive in the high school football playoffs elected to opt out of participating in the regional bowl games that begin at the conclusion of the section playoffs.
The Southern Section sent out an email informing schools they had until noon on Sunday to declare if they would not participate in the regional playoffs that lead to the CIF state championshp bowl games on Dec. 18 and 19.
Don’t expect any schools to decline a bid.
The bowl games have expanded to 13 this season. Every section champion around the state will receive a bowl berth.
The regional playoffs are Dec. 11 and 12.
The teams selected for the Open Division large schools bowl game will get a bye into the finals.
Here’s the link to criteria for selections.
