Boys’ basketball: Verdugo Hills tries to wrap up East Valley League title
- Share via
To win the East Valley League championship outright, Verdugo Hills (23-4 10-0) needs a victory either Wednesday at home against Grant (7-3) or Friday at home against Sun Valley Poly (9-2).
More importantly, the Dons are hoping to be the No. 2 seed behind Sylmar when the City Section Division II playoff pairings are announced on Saturday.
Coach Jared Gibson has put together a team that plays hard, passes the ball well and defends. Point guard Albert Marmol is averaging 12.2 points. Junior Adrian Gutierrez is averaging 13 points.
Grant is perhaps the hottest team in the league. The Lancers upset Poly last week and have come on strong since a couple of football players got into shape in late December.
