Leading by just two points going into the fourth quarter, El Camino Real turned to senior point guard Maleke Haynes, who scored eight of his 16 points in the quarter to help the Conquistadores defeat Fairfax, 51-41, in a City Section Division I semifinal playoff game at L.A. Southwest College on Saturday night.
Evan Wardlow added 13 points for El Camino Real (24-6), which will play either Westchester or Narbonne in next Saturday’s 8 p.m. final.
Fairfax (21-10) received 10 points from Lindsey Drew. The Lions did a good job forcing El Camino Real to shoot from outside and hung tough until the Conquistadores’ senior experience took over.
Chris Terry had eight points in the second quarter for El Camino Real, helping ignite a 14-0 run.
