In a gym where there wasn’t a lot of long-range shots falling, La’Vette Parker separated himself on Wednesday night, making five threes and finishing with 24 points to help Santa Ana Mater Dei (20-3, 8-0) take a two-game lead in the Trinity League with a 64-50 road victory over Orange Lutheran.
MJ Cage added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Monarchs, who face a difficult home game on Saturday night against unbeaten Fairfax in the Nike Extravaganza.
Orange Lutheran (19-4, 6-2) started slow and never could hit from outside. The Lancers made just two threes. Rogers Printup had 13 points, Christian Williams 11 and Kavaughn Scott 10.
Mater Dei opened a 19-point lead after three quarters. Orange Lutheran got as close as 10 in the fourth quarter.
Mater Dei’s Trinity League record is 87-1 under Coach Gary McKnight.
In other Trinity League games, St. John Bosco defeated JSerra, 67-54. Jazz Parker had 17 points. Kaden Rasheed had 23 points in Santa Margarita’s 63-53 win over Servite.
