Boys’ basketball: Calabasas pulls out triple overtime thriller
Coyotes defeat Mayfair, 84-77

Calabasas had to survive the efforts of Mayfair point guard Kendall Small in winning a triple overtime thriller, 84-77, on the opening night of the Redondo tournament on Monday night.
Connor Longmire, who finished with 21cpoints for the Coyotes, had given his team a 52-50 lead with just under 10 seconds left in regulation on a three-pointer from the baseline. But Small, the Oregon-bound senior, got the ball on the inbound pass despite the attempted double team, dribbled the length of the court and scored with four seconds left to send the game into the first overtime.
Longmire hit another clutch shot in the first overtime to tie the game, 61-61. In the second overtime, Ryan Ducar made two free throws with 11.5 seconds left for Calabasas to tie the game, 70-70.
In the third overtime, Kevin Seyedan had the first five points for Calabasas, which never looked back. Small finished with 33 points. Justin Bessard had 21 points for the Coyotes.
St. John Bosco withstood a determined bid by Hart to win, 58-55. Joseph Tate made a three-pointer with 14 seconds left. Vance Jackson had 28 points for St. John Bosco. Myles Franklin scored 29 points for Hart.
Terrell Gomez had 25 points in Inglewood’s 70-58 win over Lawndale. Westchester defeated Peninsula, 59-35.
Raysean Scott had 24 points and Robert Lewis added 23 in Compton’s 70-58 win over Campbell Hall. Jordan Cohen scored 16 points for the Vikings, who were without Aaron Holiday (injury).
Long Beach Poly defeated Taft, 63-34. KJ Feagin had 16 points. Ian Carter scored 17 points in Serra’s 71-65 win over Santa Monica. Jonah Mathews scored 25 points for Santa Monica. Redondo defeated Narbonne, 75-47. Leland Green scored 19 points and Billy Preston 17. Shane Carney led Narbonne with 20 points.
There will be no action on Tuesday at the Redondo tournament. Action will resume on Wednesday. Compton will play St. John Bosco at 3:30 p.m.; Poly will play Inglewood at 5 p.m.; Westchester will face Calabasas at 6:30 p.m.; Serra will face Redondo at 8 p.m.
