Baseball: Freshman Justin Campbell makes impressive debut for Simi Valley

Justin Campbell, a 6-foot-7 freshman pitcher from Simi Valley, finally made his varsity debut on Tuesday in an Arizona tournament game. Campbell struck out eight, walked two and allowed six hits in the Pioneers’ 7-3, eight-inning victory over Nansemond River.
Campbell was the winning pitcher after throwing seven innings. “He pitched great,” Coach John Arisohn said. “He threw all three pitches for strikes.”
Simi Valley scored four runs in the eighth. Timothy Walgren and Owen Sharts finished with two hits apiece.
Redondo 9, North Torrance 0: Conor Riley threw his second no-hitter, striking out 11, and Danny Zimmerman went three for three with a home run for unbeaten Redondo (11-0).
Beckman 2, Corona del Mar 0: Will Cohen threw eight shutout innings for the win. Tyler Geurts had three hits. Evan Larsen struck out 12 in 7 1/3 innings for Corona del Mar.
El Toro 4, Santa Margarita 3: Jake Jackson had the game-winning hit for El Toro, which advances to Wednesday’s 7 p.m. National Classic semifinals against Esperanza at Cal State Fullerton.
Esperanza 4, Gahr 0: Ryan Wilson threw a three-hit shutout, striking out three and walking none. Ryan Rafferty, Josh Sedoff and Dennis Hildebrandt each had two hits.
Mountain Ridge 10, Servite 9: Mountain Ridge advanced to the semifinals of the National Classic. Aaron Simpson had a double and two singles for Servite.
Tesoro 4, Villa Park 3: Jordan Martini got the save for Tesoro.
Etiwanda 1, Los Osos 0: Mike Berg threw a three-hit shutout. Chris Jimenez had two hits.
Moorpark 8, Idaho Madison 4: Matt Page and Junior Sandoval each had two hits and two RBIs.
Bishop Amat 6, Agoura 4: Dante Castillo had three hits for Bishop Amat. Tommy Tabak had three RBIs and two hits for Agoura.
Glendora 10, St. Francis 5: Bryce Wooldridge went four for four to lead Glendora. Chase Kerr added three RBIs.
Royal 5, Lompoc Cabrillo 2: Yeager George allowed no earned runs in six innings. Tommy Garcia had two hits.
Cypress 11, Roosevelt 2: Anthony Marquez finished with three hits and three RBIs. Ryan McCanless, Dominic Fletcher and Aaron Lizarraga added two hits each.
Crescenta Valley 1, Pasadena 0: Trevor Beer struck out eight and allowed only one hit in a Pacific League opener stopped after five innings because of rain.
St. John Bosco 6, Pacific Grove 5: John Beller struck out the side in the seventh.
Capistrano Valley 10, Wood Cross 3: Kevin Hwang had three hits and two RBIs and Connor Martin added two hits and two RBIs.
Alemany 12, Pioneer Valley 0: Freshman Caden Miller made an impressive debut, collecting three hits for the Warriors. Will Picketts also had three hits.
DeToledo 6, Cate 4: Daniel Eidman had two hits and three RBIs.
Cathedral 3, Righetti 1: Cathedral opens with a win in the Righetti tourney.
Aliso Niguel 2, King 1: Blake Sabol hit a walk-off home run for Aliso Niguel.
Arizona Valley Vista 6, Santa Barbara 4: Despite two hits apiece from John Jensen and Carter Soto, the Dons lost in Arizona.
Chatsworth 12, Warren 5: Josh Medina got the pitching win and also had a two-run double for the Chancellors.
