Arbitration hearing ends with parties waiting for decision

Lawyers representing the CIF Southern Section and St. Bonaventure, Oaks Christian, Damien and St. Lucy’s completed their two-day binding arbitration hearing on Wednesday. Now they will await the decision of a retired judge who has a week to reveal a decision whether any of the schools will get to stay in their current area for sports competition.
The schools filed a federal lawsuit trying to prevent the Southern Section from sending them to the parochial area beginning this fall. The parties agreed to dismiss the lawsuit in favor of arbitration.
“Both sides did a great job of presenting their case before the judge and now we wait for the response we hope we’re going to get,” St. Bonaventure Principal Marc Groff said.
