Boys’ basketball: Parker Jackson-Cartwright withdraws from Loyola

Standout senior point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright withdrew from school at Loyola High on Friday after admitting to academic misconduct, his father, Ramon, confirmed.

“He feels bad. He’s let down his teammates,” Ramon said.

Jackson-Cartwright, who signed with Arizona, met with school officials on Friday. The family decided to withdraw after learning of the punishment, Ramon said. The father declined to say the specifics of the infraction. Jackson-Cartwright is expected to enroll at another high school and finish up his academic studies.

“We learned from this. We’re not blaming anyone. He’s not blaming anyone,” said Jackson-Cartwright’s mother, Belinda.

Jackson-Cartwright didn’t play on Wednesday against St. Francis. Coach Jamal Adams said in a text message that “Parker is attending to a personal matter.”

Ramon said his son insisted on going to school on Friday and apologizing while also admitting to his academic misconduct.

“We’re sad to leave Loyola after eight years,” said Ramon, whose oldest son, Miles, was also a basketball player for the Cubs. “Parker will be a better person as a result of this.”
