Dodgers’ Chase Utley tries to head off media deluge

Chase Utley figures he’s said what there is to say about his slide into Ruben Tejada that broke the Mets shortstop’s leg in Game 2, at least for now.

Prior to Monday’s Game 3, Utley issued a statement through his agent that said he was done discussing it and that he felt terrible about the injury:

“The Players Association and my agent are handling the appeals process. I have nothing more to say other than to reiterate that I feel terrible about Ruben’s injury. Now my teammates and I are focused on Game 3 and doing everything we can to win this series.”

Utley immediately appealed the two-game suspension handed down by Major League Baseball on Sunday night.

It was originally thought that MLB would expedite the appeal and have it prior to Game 3, but now it is not expected to take place Monday and may not before Tuesday’s Game 4.

Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly previously said he was considering starting Utley in Game 3. He will remain eligible to play until his appeal has been heard and decided upon.
