Orange Coast def. Palomar

Jordan Hoppe had seven kills to lead the host Pirates to a 25-13, 25-13, 25-14 sweep in nonconference play Wednesday.

Justin Kam added five kills for OCC (7-1).

Palomar is 2-6.

Golden West def. Grossmont

The host Rustlers swept the Griffins in nonconference play on Wednesday.

Golden West improved to 7-1.

Statistics were not immediately available.

Long Beach State def. UC Irvine

LONG BEACH — Thomas Hodges had eight kills, while Scott Stadick added seven and was in on five blocks for the visiting No. 6-ranked Anteaters, who dropped the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match, 25-16, 25=22,. 25-27, 25-15, on Wednesday.

Tamir Hershko, the reigning MPSF Player of the Week, had six kills but hit negative .043.

Michael Saeta had 21 assists for UCI (11-6, 8-5 in conference).

The No. 2-ranked 49ers are 16-2, 12-1.

SOFTBALL

Orange Coast 9, Golden West 1

Jenna Hernandez went three for four with a stolen base and Montana Roelvink allowed two hits in five scoreless innings to lead the host Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday.

Linnea Donahugh was two for three with two runs batted in and Cayla Ezelle had two RBIs for OCC (3-8, 1-3 in conference).

Kyla Hernandez was two for three with one RBI for the Rustlers (0-11, 0-5).
