College Roundup: Lamunu scores 33 points in VU win

Vanguard 90, La Verne 53
Claire Lamunu scored 33 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Lions in the nonconference game on Tuesday.
Hanna Tabron added 13 points, Maya Kennedy scored 12 points on four three-pointers and Tania Uluhea scored 11 points.
Tabron hit three three-pointers.
Vanguard (12-1) led 55-21 at the half.
La Verne dropped to 0-8.
Orange Coast 64, Chaffey 60
Chyann Pendergrass scored 16 points to lead the Pirates in a semifinal of the Erin Tomlinson Coast Christmas Classic on Tuesday.
Syndey Driggs added 13 points for OCC (10-4), which plays Palomar in the championship Wednesday at 7 p.m. back at OCC. Palomar is coached by Leigh Marshall, who played at OCC and Costa Mesa High.
Orange Coast 75, Cerritos 52
Elizabeth Sakamoto scored 21points to lead the Pirates in the opening round of the Erin Tomlinson Coast Christmas Classic on Monday.
Chyann Pendergrass (nine rebounds, six assists) and Sarah Nunes scored 10 points each for OCC (9-4).
Cerritos dropped to 2-7.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
New Mexico State 85, UC Irvine 79 (OT)
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Senior guard Jaron Martin poured in a career-high 33 points for the Anteaters in the nonconference game Monday night.
Martin was 13 of 21 from the field, including a career-best seven three-pointers in 11 attempts. He scored 17 of his points in the first half.
New Mexico State improved to 11-2.
Senior center Ioannis Dimakopoulos had a career-high 11 rebounds for the Anteaters (5-8).
Freshman forward Tommy Rutherford had 12 points and six boards for UCI, and freshman guard Eyassu Worku added 11 points.
The Aggies had 27 offensive rebounds in the game and outrebounded UCI, 52-42. The Anteaters had 17 turnovers to seven for New Mexico State, which outscored UCI, 18-4, off miscues.
UCI next competes in the Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational at El Paso, Texas, opening against Akron Wednesday at 4 p.m. (PT). The Anteaters won the tournament last year.
