Daly leads Toshiba Classic field, which includes Couples

John Daly, a winner of two majors, is among the 81 PGA Champions Tour golfers to compete in the 22nd edition of the Toshiba Classic at Newport Beach Country Club Oct. 5-9.

Daly, a Champions Tour rookie who last played in Southern California five years ago at the Farmers Insurance Open, claimed the British Open in 1995 and the PGA Championship in 1991.

Defending champion Duffy Waldorf is returning to the Toshiba Classic, along with World Golf Hall of Famers Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, Hale Irwin, Mark O’Meara and Tom Kite.

“With the likes of Fred Couples, Tom Kite and Bernhard Langer, the Toshiba Classic continues to set a precedent for drawing the biggest names on the Champions Tour,” said Jeff Purser, the executive director of the Toshiba Classic, in a press release.. “We are looking forward to rookies John Daly, Billy Mayfair, Michael Bradley and Tim Petrovic bringing added excitement to the Toshiba Classic.”

Mayfair, a 28-year PGA Tour veteran, won the 1995 TOUR Championship and 1998 Buick Open, while Bradley is a four-time PGA Tour winner and Petrovic won more than $12 million throughout his career.
