Former Anteater called up to Rockies

Christian Bergman, a former UC Irvine standout pitcher, was called up to the Colorado Rockies from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

Bergman replaced starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood, whom the Rockies placed on the 15-day disabled list with a midback strain.

Bergman, a right-hander, was 2-3 with a 4.23 earned-run average this season with Albuquerque.

Bergman has made nine appearances with the Rockies this season, including one start. Going into Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals, he was 1-3 with a 5.89 ERA, striking out 19 in 18 1/3 innings.
