Knapp loses lead and settles for alternate spot for U.S. Open

Costa Mesa resident Jake Knapp lost three shots to par in the final two holes and missed advancing in a U.S. Open Local Qualifying tournament at Ironwood Country Club in Palm Desert on Tuesday.
Knapp, who is the first alternate for sectional qualifying, was leading at four-under-par before posting a bogey and a double-bogey in the final two holes to finish with a one-under 71.
The top five who advanced all shot 70.
Jake’s brother, Ryan, who also played at Estancia High, shot two-over 74.
