High School Roundup: Newport Harbor’s Kratzberg sets OC Champs meet record in 300 hurdles

MISSION VIEJO — Newport Harbor senior Emma Kratzberg won the 300-meter hurdles in 43.03 seconds, setting an OC Championships meet record, and she took first in both the 400 sprint and 100 hurdles, earning the sprinter/hurdler of the meet award at Mission Viejo High on Saturday.
Kratzberg, whose time in the 300 hurdles is also a personal best, broke the OC Championships record of 43.32 that Mater Dei’s Emma Radan set two years ago.
The Colorado State-bound athlete rallied to win the 400 in 55.95 seconds, which topped the Newport Harbor school record of 56.45 that she held.
In the 110 hurdles, Kratzberg finished in 14.54.

MISSION VIEJO — Sage Hill senior Chance Kuehnel finished first in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet 4 inches and placed third in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.04 seconds during the one-day meet at Mission Viejo High on Saturday.
Newport Harbor’s Cole Smith finished runner-up in the shotput with a heave of 59-9½ and fourth in the discus (167-2). Teammate Michael Jarboe took seventh in the shotput (52-8¼).
Newport Harbor’s Ryan Fegan placed fifth in the pole vault (13-10), Erik Herrera was seventh in the 800 (2:00.06) and Mark Field was 10th in the 1,600 (4:23.12).
The Sailors’ 4x400 relay team of Lars Hedendal, Travis Campos, Dylan Campos and Herrera took seventh in 3:32.21.
