Around Town: Magician David Blaine appears at Costa Mesa High

Magician David Blaine appears at Costa Mesa High

Costa Mesa High School hosted a performance by magician David Blaine on Friday.

The escape and endurance artist, who first made waves with his 1990s television special “Street Magic,” did a private show for about an hour in front of Mesa students and faculty members.

He performed for free at the request of math teacher Marcus Franco, who met Blaine during an Oscars after-party in Hollywood in February.

Franco noted that Blaine’s mother was a teacher, which is possibly a reason he volunteered his time for Mesa.

“The kids were so grateful and in awe of him, really,” Franco said in an email. “For David to do this for them says so much about the type of person he is.”
