One person was taken to a hospital after a small blaze broke out in a Newport Beach duplex early Friday, authorities said.
Fire crews responded around 3:15 a.m. to the 5000 block of Neptune Avenue, where a downstairs unit was burning, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.
Firefighters quickly doused the blaze, containing it to the room where it started, according to the department.
Before crews arrived, two residents of the downstairs unit and one from the upstairs unit suffered minor injuries trying to put out the fire.
One of the residents was taken to a hospital for treatment, authorities said.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities estimated the damage at $96,000.
Fire officials said the building did not have smoke alarms or a fire sprinkler system.
