Mailbag: Trump supporters openly disrespect women

On a recent afternoon, my wife and I were driving on Pacific Coast Highway through Corona del Mar and saw this message displayed on the rear window of a car: “Deplorables rule,” followed by an expletive. Had the driver simply written “Deplorables rule,” I would have thought it was harmlessly clever. Sadly though, this public display of a complete and mean-spirited lack of respect for women has now been legitimized, if not encouraged, by the deplorable acts and words of our president-elect. At least Pandora still had hope after she released evil into the world.

Accept the election results

I get it: People are upset Donald Trump won the election. Note to the women demonstrators who were apparently protesting some of the things Donald Trump has said in the past: Nothing says stop objectifying me and treating me like a piece of meat while marching half naked down a freeway. Do they understand their misguided actions at all?

Nothing reaffirms my vote more than the violent, horrific demonstrations taking place. There are obviously a lot of people hurting around our country. We all need to take a deep breath and accept we have a new president. Do your part: get a job, volunteer, be a productive member of society. We live in a democracy. The people have spoken, and it is time we all become part of the solution and not the problem.

An impediment to freeway protests

Thank you so much for publishing the photographs of the 20 scantily clad demonstrators who blocked traffic on the 405 freeway on Nov. 11. They were inspirational to me. As an opponent of the recently implemented single-use plastic bag ban, I am inspired to block a freeway too. I intend to stage my demonstration on the 405 between Harbor Boulevard and Brookhurst Street, but given that that section of highway has a virtual 24-hour, bumper-to-bumper tie-up, I’m afraid my protest will go unnoticed.

The electoral college must go

The election is over

Let us parse the past days:

The people have spoken

But have they had their say?

Though Secretary Clinton clearly won

(She had more votes

Than the other one!)

But an archaic college

From slave-holding times

Has our democracy undermined
