Before the the Pacific Symphony performed Sunday evening on the Newport Beach Civic Center lawn as part of the city’s Concerts on the Green series, a Musical Playground gave children the chance to meet musicians, play instruments and participate in a drum circle.
The Newport Beach Arts Commission helped bring the Symphony in the Cities event to town.
The remaining shows in the summer Civic Center series are:
Aug. 21: Rumours (Fleetwood Mac tribute), 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 11: The Springsteen Experience (Bruce Springsteen tribute), 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The Civic Center is at 100 Civic Center Drive, off Avocado Avenue.
Admission to all concerts is free. Guests can bring picnics, blankets and low-slung beach chairs. Food trucks also are available. Alcohol is prohibited.
