UCI’s Martin earns honor

UC Irvine sophomore Riley Martin was recently named Big West Conference Athlete of the Week in men’s cross country.

Martin placed second among 102 competitors in the Anteaters’ season-opening UCI Invitational at the Anteater Recreation Center Fields Sept. 7.

Martin covered the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 28.1 seconds to help the ‘Eaters to a runner-up team finish.

He was conference champion in the 1,500 meters in 2013.

UCI returns to action Saturday at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego.
