NEWPORT BEACH — Caroline Gels scored twice to help the Sailors open the season with a win Tuesday.

Jordan Blanchfield and Sophie Templin scored one goal each, while the Newport Harbor defense held La Verne Bonita scoreless in the second half.

Newport Harbor Coach Amanda Boyer also credited the win to solid defensive play from Jenna Nulty, Mia Bagui and Allana Rockwell and goalies Cailynn Smethurst and Erika Nilsson, with three saves each.

IRVINE — Lightning junior Stephanie Cho earned medalist honors after shooting three-over-par 39 at Strawberry Farms Golf Course Tuesday.

It was Sage Hill’s season opener.
