Breakdown: The Mustangs are coming off an offensive explosion in their 45-14 victory over Santiago on Aug. 30, which Coach Wally Grant said was spurred by improved offensive line play ... Katella did not have much offense in its opener, a 6-2 loss to Western last week ... The Knights scored their only points on a safety on the game’s final play ... Western is already a common opponent for Costa Mesa and Katella, as the Mustangs were blanked by Western, 10-0, in their opener ... Katella is 7-1-1 all-time against Costa Mesa, but the Mustangs’ victory in the series was a 56-42 triumph last year ... Costa Mesa scored touchdowns on all five of its second-half possessions in that game to overcome a halftime deficit.
