UCI junior libero is Big West Player of Week after recording school-record 34 digs on Saturday.
UC Irvine junior libero Kristin Winkler, who set a school single-match record with 34 digs on Saturday night against Portland State, has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week in women’s volleyball.
Winkler, who added 31 digs on Friday in the first match of the Lobo Invitational against host New Mexico, earned all-tournament honors and she is now fifth in UCI career annals with 1,773 digs.
Winkler, who was also an all-tournament choice at the season-opening Aztec Invitational at San Diego State, owned the previous match record of 32 digs set in 2010.
Winkler helped the Anteaters (4-4) split two matches in the tournament. The event also included an exhibition victory Saturday against the University of Montreal.
UCI plays host to Utah State (Friday at 7 p.m. at the Bren Events Center) and Idaho (Saturday at 7 at Crawford Court) in its own tournament this weekend.
