High School Roundup: CdM girls’ basketball extends winning streak to three

Junior guard Samantha Uehara led the Sea Kings in scoring for the second straight game, as Corona del Mar High’s girls’ basketball team beat Encinitas San Dieguito Academy 61-56 in the Prep Blue Division of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic on Saturday.
Uehara scored 22 points, leading CdM to its third straight win to close out the tournament.
Junior center Tatiana Bruening tallied another double-double, scoring 16 points with 12 rebounds for the Sea Kings (4-9).
Sophomore forward Sophie Beador added 13 points and eight rebounds.
CdM hosts Laguna Hills (6-5) in a nonleague game next Saturday at noon.
Lakewood Mayfair 53, Sage Hill 33: The Lightning fell to the Monsoons in the third-place game of the NAIA Division in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic on Saturday.
Freshman forward Emily Elliott had 11 points and six blocks for the Lightning (7-6). Senior shooting guard Kate Knollenberg added nine points.
Sage Hill will open Academy League play with a road game at Cerritos Whitney (6-6) on Wednesday.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Laguna Beach 66, Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor 62 (2OT): Senior forward Blake Burzell had 20 points to pace the Breakers in the third-place game of the San Diego Torrey Pines Tournament on Saturday.
Senior guard Charlie Rounaghi added 12 points, freshman center Nolan Naess had 10 points, and senior guard guard Grady Morgan and senior forward Adam Armstrong chipped in with eight points apiece.
Laguna Beach improved to 14-3 overall.
Estancia 54, Riverside Rubidoux 52: Senior guard Cameron Jones led the Eagles with 25 points in Saturday’s win in the Estancia Coast Classic.
Estancia (9-4) hosts Los Amigos (7-8) in a nonleague game on Thursday at 7 p.m.
