ANAHEIM — Costa Mesa High went 2-0 to open play at Katella High Friday.
Matt Brown scored five goals and goalie James Rydjeski made 18 saves to lead the Mustangs (4-2) to a 14-2 win over Kennedy.
Quinn Smith had three goals and seven steals and Raymond Andrade added three goals in Costa Mesa’s 10-1 win against Garden Grove.
The Mustangs compete in the round-robin finals Saturday at Tustin.

LAS VEGAS — Newport Harbor High went 1-2 on the first day of the 64-team tournament at Foothill High Friday.
Bakersfield Liberty beat the Sailors, 25-20, 25-13.
Redondo Union edged Newport Harbor, 23-25, 25-12, 25-13.
The Sailors (2-7) took down Desert Hills of Utah, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15.
Leah Castillo had 19 kills overall in the three matches, while Remy Wilson had 22 kills and Carolyn Bockrath 32 kills for Newport Harbor, which competes in consolation action Saturday.
