TEMECULA — Nick Hefner scored 17 points for the Mustangs in a pool-play game of the Linfield Christian tournament Thursday.

Saaeed El Assadi added 16 points and five rebounds for Costa Mesa (8-5), which plays in the third-place game Friday at 1 p.m.

Estancia 39, Calvary Chapel 36

GARDEN GROVE — Sophomore guard Celia Duran had 20 points for the Eagles in the Garden Grove tournament consolation game Thursday at Garden Grove High.

Bryanna Vernon scored all eight of her points in the second half for Estancia (8-8). Jenny Rubacalva had seven points and dished out eight assists.

Coach Xavier Castellano said Estancia was without junior center Gianna Jason, who was helping out with preparations for the Rose Parade.

The Eagles open Orange Coast League play at Laguna Beach on Jan. 10.
