NEWPORT BEACH — Kevin Rakestraw had 15 kills to lead the Sailors to a 25-19, 25-15, 25-17 Sunset League win Wednesday.
Peirce Ward had 10 kills and Steven Duhoux had 29 assists for Newport Harbor (12-5, 3-0 in league), which plays at Huntington Beach for first place in the Sunset League Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

NEWPORT BEACH — Freshman Gavin Leonard won two of three sets in No. 3 singles for the Sailors in a Sunset League match on Wednesday.
Garrett Byers swept at No. 1 doubles with two different partners, Sean Perrier and Phillip Vu.
Newport Harbor (9-6, 2-1 in league) plays host to Huntington Beach on Thursday at 3 p.m.

NEWPORT BEACH — Sea Kings Karick Brown and Walter Frome both shot three-over-par 38 and shared medalist honors with Edison’s Cameron Bauer in the nonleague match at Newport Beach Country Club Wednesday.
Bryan Hong (39), John Hong (41) and Drew Hanson (41) also scored for CdM (8-4, 2-1 in league).

COSTA MESA — Tyler Connors was a double winner 57.54 in the 100-yard backstroke and a 2:07.71 in the 200 individual medley for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League meet Wednesday.
Mason Cooper was also a double winner in the 50 freestyle (23.76) and 100 free (53.14).

COSTA MESA — John Leal completed a personal-best time in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.11 seconds for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League meet Wednesday.
Aaron Will had a personal best in the 500 free in 7 minutes, 17.26 seconds for Estancia (0-5, 0-3 in league).

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Christian Garkani placed first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.42 and the 100 freestyle in 47.42, and he was part of the Sea Kings’ 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay winning teams during a Pacific Coast League dual meet on Wednesday.
Garkani’s recorded CIF consideration marks in the freestyle events and his team’s relays also posted CIF consideration times.
CdM’s Liam Karas won the 200 individual medley (1:55.36), Blake Motal won the 50 freestyle (21.78) and Paul Sigler won the 500 freestyle (4:46.97), all are CIF consideration times.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Costa Mesa 90, Godinez 75
COSTA MESA — Kellie Thorsness won both the 50-yard freestyle and 100 free with times of 24.95 seconds, and 55.98, respectively, for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League meet Wednesday.
Lauren Smith won the 200 free in 2:05.54 and placed second in the 100 free in 58.23.
Aubry Hill won the 500 free in 6:08.39. Kaitlyn Hill won the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.02.
All four girls were on the winning 4x50 free relay (1:46.05) and 4x100 free relay (3:59.98).

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Allison McCormick won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.43, a CIF consideration mark, and 100 freestyle in 56.72, and she was a part of the Sea Kings’ 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay winning teams during the Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League dual meet on Wednesday.
CdM’s Brynne Wong won the 100 butterfly in 57.75, Ioanna Haralabidis won the 50 freestyle (24.33) and Stephanie Samudro won the 200 individual medley (2:14.64), all are CIF consideration times.

BOYS’ LACROSSE
Newport Harbor 7, Marina 5
NEWPORT BEACH — Brandon Rausch recorded four assists, one goal, three groundballs and won three faceoffs during the Sailors’ Sunset League home game on Wednesday.
Kole Escher scored twice and had an assist for Newport Harbor (3-7, 1-1 in league).
The Sailors play host to rival CdM (7-0) in the Battle of the Bay game on Friday at 7 p.m. The Sea Kings are ranked sixth in the state by laxpower.com.
