High School Roundup: Laguna Beach baseball reaches Newport Elks Tournament Costa Mesa Division title game

Nolan Smith was three for three with a double and two runs batted in, helping the Laguna Beach High baseball team beat Katella 11-1 on Wednesday in a Newport Elks Tournament Costa Mesa Division semifinal game at home.
With the win, the Breakers (6-0) advance to play at Placentia Valencia in the Costa Mesa Division title game Friday at 3 p.m.
Aidan Booth had two doubles and two RBIs for Laguna Beach, and Eric Silva and Charlie Pillsbury also had two hits each.
Jackson Yelland got the win, allowing one run and one hit in five innings.
Corona del Mar 7, Santa Fe 6: Kieran Sidebotham, Will Butler and Max Lane all had two hits for the Sea Kings in Wednesday’s Newport Elks Tournament Foothill Division game on the road.
Blake Butcher had three strikeouts in the seventh to close out the win for CdM (4-2).
Los Amigos 8, Saddleback Valley Christian 5: Nathan Flores threw five shutout innings, helping the host Lobos get their first win of the season Wednesday in the Newport Elks Tournament Orange County Division game.
Los Amigos (1-5) closes out the tournament with a home game against Bell Gardens at 3 p.m. Friday.
Laguna Hills 6, Costa Mesa 1: Sam Stute had the lone hit for the visiting Mustangs in Wednesday’s Newport Elks Tournament Orange County Division game.
Costa Mesa is now 1-3.
SOFTBALL
Huntington Beach 2, Riverside Poly 2: Malia Cockrell had two hits and a run batted in for the visiting Oilers on Wednesday in a nonleague game.
Mikayla Carman had a hit and drove in a run for Huntington Beach (2-0-1).
Marina 11, Pacifica 7: The Vikings improved to 2-2 overall following Wednesday’s nonleague game on the road.
Santa Ana 16, Los Amigos 15: Lauren Duran went four for four to lead the Lobos on Wednesday in a nonleague game at home.
Leslie Lopez went three for four, driving in four runs and scoring three runs for Los Amigos (1-2). Elizabeth Duran also had three hits and scored two runs.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Fountain Valley 17, Edison 1: Kai Rodriguez and Nathan Dang swept in doubles for the visiting Barons in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match.
Alan Ton swept in singles for Fountain Valley (3-0).
Edison is now 1-2.
Sage Hill 12, Santa Margarita 6: Rohun Krishnan and Brian Yu swept in doubles for the Lightning in Wednesday’s nonleague road match.
Sage Hill improved to 2-0.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Servite 3, Edison 1: The visiting Friars beat the Chargers 25-20, 25-27, 25-18, 25-20 on Wednesday in a nonleague match.
Edison fell to 4-4 overall.
BOYS’ LACROSSE
Edison 9, Northwood 7: The host Chargers improved to 2-1 this season after Wednesday’s nonleague match.
Huntington Beach 9, Aliso Niguel 8: The Oilers opened the season on Wednesday with a win in a nonleague contest at home.
