College Roundup: Vanguard baseball defeats Whittier

Landon Riker and Grady Conner each went three for four with three runs scored, and the Vanguard University baseball team beat Whittier College 11-6 in a nonconference game Tuesday at home.
Luke Arias was also three for four and drove in three runs for Vanguard (4-0). Justin Graves (1-0) got the win, allowing two earned runs and three hits in four innings.
Vanguard plays at the University of Redlands on Friday at 2 p.m.
Golden West 8, College of the Canyons 7 (eight innings): Enrique Bennett was two for three with a home run for the Rustlers in Tuesday’s nonconference game on the road.
Golden West improved to 2-1.
MEN’S GOLF
OUAZ Spring Invitational: Vanguard placed 11th as a team in its first competition of the season on Tuesday at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Vanguard’s Titus Goodman shot a seven-over-par 79 on the final day and finished tied for 28th individually. AJ Pujols shot an 83 on the last day.
WOMEN’S GOLF
OUAZ Spring Invitational: Malia Kiger helped lead Vanguard to a seventh-place finish on the final day of competition on Tuesday at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Kiger shot an 11-over-par 83 on Tuesday for a team-best two-day total of 164, which tied her for seventh place individually.
Vanguard’s Kamryn Keller (176) finished 18th.
