High School Roundup: Newport Harbor boys’ basketball outlasts Fountain Valley in double overtime

Senior forward Nick Silva made two free throws with 1.2 seconds left in double overtime, lifting the Newport Harbor High boys’ basketball team to a 57-56 win at Fountain Valley in a Sunset Conference crossover game Wednesday night.
Ryan Miller scored 15 points for Newport Harbor (16-4), which hosts Marina on Friday at 7 p.m. Luke Bashore added 10 points.
Roddie Anderson had a game-high 17 points for Fountain Valley, Jeremiah Davis scored 13 points and Aden Casarez added 11. The Barons rallied from a seven-point deficit in the final minute of double overtime before Silva’s free throws.
Fountain Valley (9-6) plays at Los Alamitos on Friday at 7 p.m.
Laguna Beach 71, Edison 46: Nolan Naess scored 32 points for the host Breakers in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game.
Willie Rounaghi added 12 points for Laguna Beach (12-6), which plays at Corona del Mar on Friday at 7 p.m.
Connor Collins and Trey Wilborn each scored 11 points for Edison (11-9), which hosts Huntington Beach on Friday at 7 p.m.
Corona del Mar 60, Huntington Beach 32: Jack Stone had 31 points for the Sea Kings in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game at home.
Matt DeCrona chipped in seven points for CdM (13-4), which hosts Laguna Beach on Friday.
Luke Kumaric led Huntington Beach (5-13), which plays at Edison on Friday, with nine points.
Los Amigos 54, Santiago 48: Michael Valencia had 21 points to lead the Lobos in their Garden Grove League opener Wednesday at home.
Brian Pacheco added 14 points for Los Amigos (10-7), which hosts La Quinta on Friday at 7 p.m.
Los Alamitos 62, Marina 44: The Vikings fell to 9-11 after losing Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover game.
Marina plays at Newport Harbor on Friday.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Fountain Valley 2, Newport Harbor 0: Austin Pennella scored twice for the Barons (3-6-1) in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at home.
Newport Harbor dropped to 7-2.
Corona del Mar 2, Huntington Beach 1: Zach Cohen and Chase Marion scored second-half goals for the host Sea Kings on Wednesday in a Sunset Conference crossover match.
Dean Shaw and Aidan Holmes each drew an assist for CdM (5-4), while Wally Korbler stopped five shots after halftime.
Huntington Beach is 4-6-2.
Marina 1, Los Alamitos 1: Damian Campos scored a second-half goal for the visiting Vikings (6-4-3) in Wednesday’s Sunset Conference crossover match.
Dane Brenton provided the assist for Marina, which trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Costa Mesa 2, Orange 2: The host Mustangs snapped a five-match losing streak on Wednesday in their Orange Coast League opener.
Costa Mesa (2-7-4) scored its first two goals of its past six contests.
Ocean View 2, Westminster 0: The host Seahawks notched their fourth win in their past six matches on Wednesday in a Golden West League opener.
Ocean View (4-8-3) remains at home to face Western on Friday at 3 p.m.
Santa Ana 4, Estancia 0: The visiting Eagles were shut out for the third consecutive match on Wednesday in an Orange Coast League opener.
Estancia is 1-10-3.
Santiago 2, Los Amigos 1: Francisco Lopez scored a goal for the host Lobos in Wednesday’s Garden Grove League opener.
Los Amigos fell to 3-2-3.
WRESTLING
Fountain Valley 51, Marina 21: The visiting Barons improved to 2-0 in the Surf League on Wednesday, earning at least a share of their ninth consecutive league title.
Marina dropped to 1-1 in the league.
Edison 41, Los Alamitos 39: The host Chargers earned their first win of Surf League competition on Wednesday, running their record to 1-1 in the league.
Los Alamitos fell to 0-2 in league action.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Santiago 43, Los Amigos 20: The host Lobos (10-8) dropped Wednesday’s Garden Grove League opener.
