Edison’s Ethan Galaz and Dane Howell earn first-team All-Wave League boys’ water polo accolades

Edison High seniors Ethan Galaz and Dane Howell earned first-team All-Wave League status in boys’ water polo after helping the Chargers secure second place in the league.
Marina High senior Tanner Powell and Fountain Valley senior Justin Giang also earned first-team accolades.
Galaz, a center, and Howell, an attacker, helped the Chargers go 13-16 overall and 4-2 in league play. Edison beat Temple City 11-10 in sudden-death overtime in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs before falling 10-6 at Santa Barbara in the second round.
Powell, a goalkeeper, helped Marina (14-14, 2-4 in league) finish in third place in the league. The Vikings advanced to the postseason for the first time since 2005, beating Estancia 12-6 in the first round of the Division 5 playoffs for their first CIF victory since 2003. Marina lost 13-11 to Burbank Burroughs in the second round.
Giang, a center, led the Barons (3-21, 0-6), who failed to qualify for the Division 5 playoffs.
Second-team selections included Edison senior Luke Burgard and sophomore Tommy Kelly, as well as Marina junior Kolby Burke and sophomore Vincent Labonte. Fountain Valley junior Matthew Edborg also was on the second team.
Junior Gabe Chang of league champion Los Alamitos earned Wave League MVP honors.
