Police: Driver hit tree and light pole

A driver hit a palm tree and a light pole in Newport Beach on Sunday and was taken to an area hospital, police said

Newport police responded to a report about 2:45 p.m. that an accident had occurred near Dover and Cliff drives, said police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.

The driver seemed to be in good condition after the incident but was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana for medical evaluation, Manzella said.

Further information was unavailable Monday afternoon. An investigation is continuing.

City employees repaired the light pole after the incident, Manzella said.
