Huntington Beach Union High School District students’ exit exams show they are more skilled than their counterparts throughout the county and the state on average, and that 75% of those tested received a proficient or above score in the English-language arts category, according to data released Wednesday by the California Department of Education.
A summary of the English-language arts category of the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) put the district’s students on top with 92% passing the exam, versus 88% in the county and 82% in the state.
The exam is a requirement given to all high school students, but those with disabilities are exempt.
This year’s test results show slight improvement among African American and Hispanic students throughout the state; 90.9% of African Americans passed the exam this year versus 89.6% last year, and 92.3% of Hispanics passed the exam this year compared to 91.4% last year.
