Majors Division

Dodgers 9, Giants 7: The Dodgers scored the final six runs of the game Saturday to get past the Giants.

The Dodgers led, 3-0, in the first inning but the Giants responded with seven consecutive runs to pull ahead, 7-3. Ryan Inman, Andrew Schiffner, Dylan Uyekawa, Greg Fronek, Scott Macias, Jack Delulio, Ryan Gadbois, Noah Murchison all had hits for the Giants.

The Dodgers’ attack was led by Buzz Stafford who had three hits (two doubles) and Blake Thomas who had a a home run and double. Other Dodgers with hits were JJ Muratore, Tyler Beyer, Connor Doherty, Colton Roberts, Chris Pai and Ari Miranda. Dodgers second baseman Jason Arita stopped a potential run-scoring hit in the fifth inning when he made a diving stop of a ball hit to his left, then scrambled to his feet and made the throw to first for the out.

Ranger 8 Yankees 6: The Rangers continued their late-season surge with by defeating the first-place Yankees for their third victory in a row. The Rangers battled back from a three-run deficit, scoring five runs in a fourth-inning blitz highlighted by a three-run home run by Kai Noble.

Preston Niles pitched 4 1/3 innings and Matthew Clark closed out the game and didn’t allow a run in 1 2/3 innings for the Rangers.

Brewers 1 Phillies 0: The Brewers held off the Phillies in a close game Saturday. Brewers pitcher KJ Spiratos threw a two-hit, complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts. Mathew Coots scored the game’s only run.

Minor A Division

Angels win two, regain first-place

After losing to the Pirates last week, the Angels responded with two-straight wins to resume first-place in the division standings.

Angels 11 Dodgers 5: The Dodgers came out swinging and scored four runs in their first at-bat on hits from Bobby Strachan, Mitchell Adams, Dean Vis and Tanner Autry. Although, Daniel Stephan of the Angels had a rough start, he shut down the Dodgers for the next two innings. The Dodgers remained in the lead until the third inning when the Angels’ Blaine Rierderich started the inning with a home run. The “small ball” game played by the Angels kept base runners moving and resulted in their win. Stephan and fellow Angels pitchers Brandon Vacarro and Chance Sommerville, proved too much and kept the Dodgers scoreless until the sixth when Chad Phillips scored the final Dodgers run.

Angels 19 Yankees 2: A combination of pitching and defense allowed the Angels to keep the Yankees at bay. Starting pitcher Kevin Arent didn’t allow a run in three innings and struck out four with relievers Brandon Vacarro and Chance Sommerville finishing the game. Offensively, Blaine Rierderich hit a two-run home run in the second inning and hit a solo homer in the fourth. Rierderich’s big day at the plate also included a double and triple. Cody Griffith, Kale Noble, Chase Ishino, Nolan Arotcharen and Colin Fathauer also provided the Angels with key offensive power.

Minor B Division

Hurricanes 15, Bulldogs 8: The Hurricanes clinched a spot in next month’s District 62 Tournament of Champions with a victory over the Bulldogs. Hurricanes coach Mick Econamakos told the players that if they qualified for the tournament, they could shave his head. Econamakos kept to his promise and the Hurricanes celebrated their victory with an electric clipper and a lot of cheering.

Ocean View Little League

Minor A Division

Red Wings 10, Bats 3: The Red Wings bats woke from a mid-season slumber to pound out 15 hits and 10 runs in the final regular-season game of the year. Landen Hill, Andrew DeCarlo, Mason Stinson, Zach St. Hilaire, Marcus Flum, Kyle Haynes and Owen Radzai all notched two hits apiece and Miles Hubbard singled. Kouji Oyama and Ricardo Ochoa played heads-up defense and stopped the Bats from climbing back into the game in the middle innings. Hill, St. Hilaire and DeCarlo pitched for the Red Wings. Seth Knorr pitched four strong innings and Colton Meyer added another two solid innings for the Bats. Nick Deleske and Austin Meyer made outstanding defensive plays for the Bats.

“This was a good victory to go into the playoffs with, Red Wings Coach Garrett Stinson said. “Everyone hit and played solid baseball. We are ready for playoff baseball. I might not shave until our playoff run is over. Hopefully my beard will be thick and healthy by the end of playoffs.”

Minor C Division (no score kept)

Threshers vs. Owlz: Offensively the Threshers had a tough time Saturday against the Owlz,until their bats woke up in the sixth inning. Brendon Saraf started the inning with a single, Joseph Vardayo drew a walk and Nate Skorheim hit a double for two RBI. Alec Muirhead sacrificed for a third RBI and Tristan Kennedy’s single was good for the last RBI of the game. Defensively for the Threshers, Jimmy Campbell pitched his first game (second inning).

Threshers vs. Iron Birds: Minor C is all about kid pitch now, and the Threshers are no exception. Lucas Pantel started as pitcher and allowed two hits and a walk in the first two innings. Tristan Kennedy pitched the next two innings and allowed only two singles and racking up all six outs himself on five strikeouts and a pop fly. Alec Muirhead pitched the final two innings and struck out two. Kennedy also caught two line drives while a third base and also tagged out a runner to turn a double play. On offense for the Threshers, Pantel racked up three RBI, Muirhead had an RBI and doubled and Nate Skorheim, Jimmy Campbell and Samuel Mejia all doubled.

Threshers vs. Sand Gnats: The Threshers had their work cut out for them in this game. Alec Muirhead had two singles and two RBI, Nick Skorheim singled and doubled and Tristan Kennedy and Brendon Saraf both hit singles for the Threshes. Defensively, Lucas Pantel had six strikeouts and allowed just one hit in the first two innings. Kennedy also had six strikeouts and gave up a single and walk. Muirhead struck out two and Skorheim struck out one.

Farm Division (no score kept)

Tarheels vs. Hurricanes, Anteaters: The Tarheels unleashed a relentless attack Monday, led by Gavin Kells, William Lawler, Isaac Ballinas, Quinn Ortiz, A.J. Hurtado, Brendon Paduano and Jackson Harris. Elijah Herrera, Trent Cleboski, Nathan Halloran, Jack Carmody and David Drigla, all chipped in with solid hits. The Tarheels received key defensive contributions from Ballinas who made a shoestring catch in front of the mound and Halloran who made several alert plays in the infield. In a previous game played Friday, the Tarheels battled the Anteaters in an entertaining game. Drigla turned in the defensive highlight for his pitching post by converting three grounders to the mound into three outs in a single inning.

T-Ball Division (no score kept)

Buffaloes vs. Jayhawks: The sun was out Saturday as these two titans of the T-Ball league came together in a clash to be remembered. Roman Cianca, Kaden Chase and Nicholas Flum led the attack for the Jayhawks who continued to pound Coach Nigel Flum’s pitching all over the field. In an amazing show of sportsmanship, parents and fans of both teams formed a single “super tunnel” for the players to run through after the game was completed.
