Larry James Ramsey

Our beloved husband,
father, grandfather and
brother died at home
in Laguna Hills after
courageously fighting bone
cancer for three and a half
years. Larry was born in
Los Angeles two years
after his brother John. The
family moved to Eagle
Rock when Larry was in
the 2nd grade and he lived
there through high school.
Larry was an outstanding
athlete and excelled in
football, baseball and track
at Eagle Rock High School.
Last year he was inducted
into the Eagle Rock Hall of Fame at a ceremony attended by
his family and life-long friends and classmates, Bob Johnson,
Spike Burlingame, Americ Hadley and many others.
After two years at Glendale College, Larry was drafted
into the Dodger organization, where he played in the minors
until a serious injury took him out of the game he loved so
much. While playing for the Dodgers, Larry married his
college sweetheart, Gail Frances Jones. They had a son
and daughter, Tom and Jennifer, and shared forty-seven
happy years.
The Ramseys moved to Laguna Hills from Burbank in
1978. They lived a wonderful life in Nellie Gail Ranch, where
they enjoyed horseback riding, tennis and golf. Parties and
holiday celebrations were frequent and well attended by
extended family and close friends.
Larry was a salesman for an industrial products firm for over
30 years and he worked until the last week of his life. His family
is grateful for the support of his employer and co-workers at Kent
H. Landsberg Co.
Larry appreciated and returned the love of his wife’s parents,
Bobs and Tom Jones. He was a devoted grandfather to Scott and
Madelyn Ramsey and Camille and Mark Anthony Calentino.
We will all miss Larry’s quick wit and keen mind. Larry
was a loyal friend and champion both on and off the field.
Larry’s memorial will be held on Saturday, March 20 at
noon in the Chapel at Crossline Community Church, 23331
Moulton Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA 92653, followed by a
gathering of his family and friends at his home at 24761 Red
Lodge Place, Laguna Hills, CA 92653.
In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate donations to
the Larry Ramsey S’58 Memorial Scholarship, Eagle Rock
High School (ERHS) Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box
411236, Eagle Rock, CA 90041.
