St. Joachim Catholic School of Costa Mesa finished its one week long celebration of Catholic Schools Week last Friday.
The celebration started out last Sunday with a special mass at St. Joachim church followed by a well attended School Open House for all grades. Every day there after had a different highlight:
Monday was the day when teachers and staff were celebrated and got recognized. Tuesday the school honored community agencies, and several grades participated in delivering their written letters of thanks and a variety of baked goods to the fire fighters, police department and other agencies.
Wednesday turned out to be the favorite day of the week for students and families. This was the day where every student could bring a special person in his or her life to share lunch with at school. It was heart warming to see all the different generations roam the school grounds and the school was filled with laughter and excited faces when beloved grandparents, aunts and also siblings were sharing a special lunch time with their St. Joachim student. Thursday was dedicated to all the wonderful students of St. Joachim and their outstanding accomplishments. Happily smiling students received their SeaKing Awards, SLE Awards and Hall of Fame Awards.
The last day of Catholic Schools Week was planned to finish in a spectacular ‘eighth grade students against teachers’ Kickball tournament, which had to get postponed because of the heavy rains. This didn’t do any harm to the overall success of this year’s Catholic Schools Week, a week spent with reflections on the motto “Catholic Schools - Dividends for Life”; a week that left everyone of St. Joachim’s school community proud of their school, their teachers and their student body and the school’s achievements as a whole.
“Catholic Schools - Dividends for Life” was the theme selected for Catholic Schools Week 2010. Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration that focuses attention on the good work done by the nation’s Catholic schools. (see catholic.org)
Catholic Schools Week is a joint project of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
