Ten Oilers earn league honors

Five Huntington Beach High football players have been honored with first-team All-Sea View League status, in voting by league coaches.

Seniors Jack Dilbeck, Kaller Roemer and Cody Tucker, as well as junior Luke Holler and sophomore Nolan Biegel, earned first-team honors.

Dilbeck finished with 1,205 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns for Huntington Beach (7-5). Roemer led the team with 975 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Biegel, a linebacker, led the team with 71 tackles and defensive end Holler and tackle Tucker helped anchor the line.

Oilers honored on the second team were lineman Kurtis Ackerman, center/kicker Eric Chan, quarterback Sean Guite, strong safety Nick Phipps and defensive end Sean Tavakoli (all seniors).

Huntington Beach finished third in the Sea View League and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Southwest Division quarterfinals. It was the first time the Oilers advanced past the first round of CIF since the Tony Gonzalez-led team of 1993.

It was also the first time Huntington had made the playoffs in consecutive years since 1992-93.

Trabuco Hills’ Shane Decillo and Griffin Balmer were named the league Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively.

Nunez, Esqueda take first-team honors

Los Amigos High senior offensive lineman Edgar Esqueda and senior defensive lineman Daniel Nunez have earned first-team All-Garden Grove League football honors. Senior lineman Jorge Saavedra, sophomore quarterback Daniel Hernandez, senior defensive end J.J. Brown and senior linebacker Gabriel Boyer earned second-team status.
