Holley sets record in defeat

LONG BEACH — Orange Coast College sophomore tailback Ray Holley rushed for 266 yards and five touchdowns, but the visiting Pirates dropped their regular-season football finale, 42-38, to Long Beach Saturday at Veterans Stadium.

Holley, who was 14 yards shy of the Pirates’ single-game record set by Bill Harrison in 1956, finished the regular season with 1,457 yards, eclipsing the 1,442 Jeff Clayton rushed for in 1993.

Holley scored his 18th touchdown of the season with 8:10 left to give OCC (5-5, 1-5 in the National Division), a 38-35 lead.
